«If a fictive artist has the power to inhabit not only one but multiple fictional planes, might not this multiplicity inspire us to numerous forms of existence?»

Trust In Fiction, CRAC Alsace, Centre rhénan d’art contemporain, Altkirch, France

From February 21 to May 15, 2016, Trust In Fiction, a group exhibition with Eleanora Antinova, The Atlas Group, Jack Blevins, Collection Yoon Ja & Paul Devautour, Marcelo do Campo & Marcelo Cidade, René García Atuq, Pedro Manrique Figueroa, Joaquim Nunes de Souza, Naranja M. Q. & Clara S. & Helena L. & Javi L. & le Mendiant, Euclides Terra, Juan Trepadori, and works by Luis Camnitzer, José Guillermo Castillo, Liliana Porter, Luis Ospina, curated by Santiago García Navarro & Elfi Turpin.

The exhibition focuses on different conceptual and critical strategies enabling artists to develop a body of work by absorbing the subjectivity of invented authors. Freeing the artist from the constraints of space, time and genre, these strategies make possible the construction of an oeuvre at once hybrid, flexible and open-ended.

Risk… it is human to make a mistake. Or two…

Luleå Art Biennial 2009, curated by Jan-Erik Lundström

It is possible to suggest that what defines the human being as human, as distinct from other life forms, is the capacity to error, to make mistakes, to fail. Philosopher of science, Georges Canguilhem, has commented upon the analogy between human evolution and error, that in the evolutionary process change is linked to chance and failure; i.e. that it is when the reproduction of the genome fails, when there is an error in representation, that a new code is produced, that mutation occurs, and, thus, that new life forms emerge. He continues to suggest that, as a consequence, human life as such must be characterized not only by truth and precision, advance and consolidation, but also by the possibility and capacity to error, failure, incompleteness, indecision, doubt and imperfection.
